On September 14th I traveled to Wisconsin and have been here canvassing on behalf of Kamala Harris every day since.
When I chose Wisconsin as the swing state in which to volunteer, I didn’t pick Madison or Milwaukee but rather I traveled up to the northeastern region of the state because here lies the Wisconsin Eight Congressional District (WI-8th), which solidly Red for the last 12 years is now uniquely suited to flip Blue. The two factors at play are that the incumbent Republican has resigned from office leaving an undefended seat and equally important is that the Democratic candidate is the brilliant and dynamic Dr. Kristin Lyerly, an OB/GYN. By winning this Congressional seat we will be a step closer to taking back The House, an essential component in the overall effort to elect and empower Kamala Harris as President!
I picked Green Bay as my destination because of the strength of this candidate and her potential to win the WI –8th, but what I did not know at the time was the amazing backstory of how Kristin and two other women have been working together since 2022 when Row V. Wade was first overturn, to flip this Congressional seat Blue. Long before they knew the incumbent Congressman was going to resign and certainly before they had any idea that Kamala Harris would be our nominee for President. And while Kristin ended up being the consensus candidate they collectively chose to run for the Congressional seat, there are in fact 11 other women running for statewide offices in Northeast Wisconsin where state government has been dominated by men since well, ...since forever!
